No prior hands on training required and all new learning for our students that have enjoyed any of our 10’ Wall Challenge, Windows & Doors, Windows and Details or any of our previous airtightness series skills training. There are no tests, there is an opportunity to contribute to the construction for any student, but this practical learning opportunity is intended to be a low stress opportunity to learn about some of the above wall building envelope systems that will be the basis of all new homes built in BC under the upper levels of the BC Energy Step Code.

Series 1: Traditional Approaches (20 CPD)
This three day, hands on training session focuses on connecting each of the materials, assemblies and transitions that make up the Air Barrier system. "How tight is tight" was the subject of the first ever Building Envelope Council of BC all day seminar in 1988. 30 years later the answers about airtightness are becoming clear and this course focuses on "How Tight" and "How To" for traditional roofs/attics, walls above grade, & walls below grade. All instruction emphasizes the "House As A Whole" philosophy with airtightness as a continuous system.
A specialized mini house developed specifically for air tightness training allows students to observe and participate in air barrier detailing on a sample, real world structure with a focus on transitions, penetrations, details and assemblies. The instructors have spent a career in developing and constructing these methods and will provide many tips and tricks with both old and familiar approaches as well as methods that incorporate newer and specialized materials and assemblies. Already taken this course? Check out "Series 2: Alternate Approaches"! Course DatesThank you to everyone who participated in Series 1: Traditional Approaches! and/or Series 2: Alternate Approaches

"How tight is tight" was the subject of the first ever Building Envelope Council of BC all day seminar in 1988. 30 years later the answers about airtightness are becoming clear and this course focuses on "How Tight" and "How To" for alternate roofs/attics (conditioned attics, inverted roofing assemblies), walls above grade ("perfect wall" systems), & walls below grade (ICF & exteriorly insulated foundation walls). All instruction emphasizes the "House As A Whole" philosophy with airtightness as a continuous system.
