Online Courses
Picture
Presented Live, October, 2018  - May, 2019

The findings from our research and testing at our facilities in Port Coquitlam and through our manufacturing and installer partners is being overlaid with the experience gained through the 18 year development of code conforming building envelope details for modern, high energy efficiency walls above grade.

What membranes? What fasteners? How many? How much?

Light weight cladding to stone veneer, over sheathing or over exterior insulation, real products with real product names available from real venders here in BC, all clearly installed for the Builder and their crews with home of the fluff. Enjoy this entire acclaimed series and refer back to it often as you explore cladding and accessories installation.

Session 2: Installing light weight cladding including vinyl and metal

Vinyl Siding (Kaycan): Fasteners, optional furring, continuous exterior insulation, understanding thermal expansion and impact on attachment, starter strips, J trim, specialty pieces (inside corners, outside corners, vent strips), and integrating/transitioning to other cladding/trim.
Aluminum Siding and Panels (Longboard / AL13): Fasteners, mounting tracks, optional furring, continuous exterior insulation, understanding thermal expansion and impact on attachment, starter strips, custom flashings, trim, termination and corner details, specialty pieces, and integrating/transitioning to other cladding/trim.
Wood (Cedar, SPF, Horizontal and Board & Batten): Fasteners, optional furring, continuous exterior insulation, fasteners, finishes, and back priming.

Session 3: Installing moderate weight cladding including concrete fiber board

James Hardie, Ceraclad: Structural attachment with exterior insulation and moderate weight cladding, cutting/handling, fastening, painting/sealing, flashing/trim, and integrating with other cladding and trim.

Session 4: Installing moderately heavy cladding including stucco
Structural attachment with exterior insulation and moderately heavy cladding, conventional stucco systems on stucco backer or K lath, modified stucco finishes on cement board (STO), Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS) on Mass Wall, control joints, flashings, trim and transitions, and fasteners for moderately heavy cladding attachment

Session 5: Installing bonded heavy cladding including stone veneer
Structural attachment with exterior insulation and heavy cladding, structural substrates, specialty lath, fasteners for bonded heavy cladding including stone veneer, bonding mortar and pointing, and cultured vs. natural stone veneer.

Session 6: Installing alternate cladding and finishes including Masonry Veneer, EIFS, SIPs, ICF & Mass Wall

Masonry Veneer: Shelf Angles & Thermally Broken Shelf Angles, Strap Ties and Masonry Ties, creating the Capillary Break, working with optional exterior insulation (furring, fasteners, sheathing), mortar, Pointing, Weep Holes, truing the wall (the humble hour), and masonry coatings, efflorescence, flashings.
Structural attachment with exterior insulation and moderately heavy cladding, conventional stucco systems on stucco backer or K lath, modified stucco finishes on cement board (STO), Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS) on Mass Wall, control joints, flashings, trim and transitions, and fasteners for moderately heavy cladding attachment.
