Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of the cruise?
This will vary depending on when you book, the type of stateroom you select and the amenities you choose to add. Some rooms are available for under $750 per person with amazing bonus amenities! (Education fee $850 and airfare not included) We receive updated pricing and bonus amenities so if you are interested, please call 604.464.0596 or 1.844.464.5663
What cruise line will we be sailing on?
At this point we have are offering 3 cruises, aboard excellent vessels from Princess and Celebrity  Cruise Lines.

  • Jan 19th - 26th, 2025 embarking in Tampa, Florida, Aboard the Celebrity "Constellation" (The Phenix Project)
  • July 3rd- 17th, 2025 embarking in Southampton, England aboard the Princess "Emerald" (The Phenix Project)
  • Jan 16th - Jan 26th 2026 embarking in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, aboard the "Enchanted" Princess (TBA)
  • Sept 28 - Oct 9, 2026 embarking in Ravenna, Italy, aboard the Celebrity "Eclipse" (TBA)
How many CPD credits will I earn on the cruise?
21!  As long as you earn your Active Practice credits, this will fulfill your annual requirement with one to spare!
Are there any exams?
Absolutely not! The curriculum is presented in the unique story-telling way that makes the information relevant and retention of information unusually high. Most builders can parrot theories years later due to Murray's unique style.
Why at sea?
Think about it, by the time you travel to a major centre and still need to pay for hotel we thought it would make more sense to have accommodations built in. You may even save money doing it this way! You also have the added bonus of having extra time with Murray for lively conversation in a casual setting. Some of the best learning happens after the classes!
What are the courses?
21 BC Housing and BOABC pre-approved CPD learning credits; a new series beginning every fall. A focus on construction details for conforming assemblies from foundation to roof and everything in-between. For specific cruise curriculum, please visit our Cruise Options, or our Seminars page. If you are actively building (earning all 20 Active Practice points), then these are all the points you need for the year.
When do we do the courses? I don’t want to miss any Islands.
Course material is generally presented on Sea days only and we are finished in time for dinner. Port of Call days will help you recharge your batteries.
Can kids and wives go?
Yes! In fact there are tons of activities on board to keep everyone busy.  They also have Kids Camps and Babysitting.
Is there a cost for kids camp?
Kids Camp is free.  Late night babysitting is available for a small fee.
Can multiple students share a room room?
Yes. In fact by doing this the cost per person can be reduced significantly.
What can my family/guests do while I am in class?
Anything they want! There are many activities and amenities on board and you can regroup after class for dining and entertainment.
When does my cruise have to be paid by?
Your cruise needs to be paid in full 90 days prior to sailing.  The student fee $850 and we also collect a cruise deposit (costs vary depending on the cruise line).
If we change our minds can we get a refund?
$500 of the student fee is non refundable.  The cruise can be cancelled anytime before the payment due date. You may also have the option of transferring to an alternate cruise if logistics allow.
Is airfare included?
Due to the builders from all over the province attending, airfare is to be arranged by attendees. Many use air miles or loyalty programs to book their airfare. If you need advice, please contact Karen, our trip specialist.
Where can I learn more about the individual sailings and what is included?
The Norwegian Cruise Line website has a lot of information about the ships, destinations and amenities (also follow the links in the second FAQ answer).
When should I book my cruise?
As early as possible! In our experience, the earlier you book, the more generous the amenity bonuses. You can add excellent value to your cruise with bonuses like Ultimate Beverage Package, Upgraded Dining, Excursion Credits and more!
What if the cruise does not take place when I need my CPD credits?
Don't despair, you won't miss out forever! Due to the popularity of the cruises you may have to do some land training for one licence cycle and join us next time.
