The Course That Comes to You!
3-Day Course | 20 CPD Credits
Picture

Note: Please be sure to order at least 1 month prior to your CPD credit due date to ensure your box is done in time.

Course In A Box is a hybrid method of learning using many different methods of education for a particular course including flipped classroom, projects, online, live webinar, and help desk.
The purpose of Course In A Box is to:
  • Allow builders the opportunity to complete hands on course from remote locations or to complete on their own time without the structured scheduling required of a live workshop
  • Provide feedback (testing) of completed projects in a controlled environment on what would normally be just a deliverable to a homeowner without real follow up or testing
  • Allow builder to understand the concepts and reasons behind different construction methods and why they are important to include in design and practical application in an environment of quality, longevity, efficiency requirement by both regulation and client demands.

Order our Course In A Box, which ships directly to your facility, designed to be completed over 2 1/2 days. All of the materials and assemblies required to complete the wall blank are included in this kit, which is shipped in a re-usable crate with return freight pre-paid. You just need to supply the hand tools necessary for home construction. Elements are pre-fabricated, pre-cut and pre-assembled where appropriate so that your time can be focused on learning and not wasting time on simple tasks. Your instructions via online presentations combine simple to understand Building Science principles as they relate to your details, with step-by-step instructions in creating a high-performance, energy efficient, Code conforming assembly ready for return shipping to our facility.

Upon return of your assembly, it is thoroughly tested in our test rig, with the entire process detailed via online video. The results and review of your box, identifying and outlining successes and challenges, will be sent back to you to know exactly how your assembly performed!

As always our customer support team and advisors, instructors and consultants are available by phone, text, email, live computer support, and video communication (Skype, FaceTime) to assist with anything you need.

We currently offer Course in a Box with our new Windows & Details course (see below), with more congruent courses currently in development!

A 20-hour, hands-on builder course that combines high level building science explanations of the requirements for successful building enclosure design and construction woven into 2 days of Instructor-led wall detailing construction into small, prefabricated high performance wall blanks. followed by a day of testing . Students install their choice of window, dryer vent hood, hose bib and electrical penetration into their choice of high-performance wood frame wall (narrow stud/wide stud/double stud/exterior insulation). Day 3 testing has the wall blanks placed into our test rig, examining air leakage and running a full ASTM e1105 Wind Driven Rain test at progressively increasing air pressure differentials until the sample either exceeds the highest test rating or it fails. The use of UV fluorescing dye in the test water aids in identifying even the smallest leaks as well as provides easily interpreted stating patterns for water ingress paths that can be identified as the assembly is disassembled after testing.
